Commissioned by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra
to be presented in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II on Sir Robert Mayer’s 100th
birthday when he also received his knighthood.
A trophy with 3 silver gilt figures representing Youth, Philanthropy and Music. The
figures representing Philanthropy and Music hold engraved crystal discs with symbolisms
representing their subjects. Behind the inscription is a drawer holding a book which
explains the symbols of this piece together with the signatures of all the trustees,
directors and members of these two great orchestras.
